How much oil is there left

16 Mar 2009 It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota ; western South  Additionally, ~66% of the oil in a reservoir is frequently left behind because it's too expensive or difficult to extract.

It's hard to know how much oil we have left, but this is our best guess. When will we run out? By Jennifer Lu. April 26, 2019. There was only ever one true Ferris Wheel, and we blew it up. That sounds like a lot, but the world burns 30 billion barrels a year, so that is 18 years at current rates of use, but given that population is exponentially growing at 1.3% per year, adding 75 million new people annually, even if every drop of this hoped for oil is discovered, there may be less than 18 years left. For example, one of the most-cited estimates comes from BP’s ( BP - Free Report) prediction made on World Energy Day in 2014; based on reserve estimates of 1.688 trillion barrels, BP claimed the earth has enough oil left for about 53 more years at current production levels. The Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries reports that there are 1.5 trillion barrels of crude oil reserves left in the world.

The East Texas Field, which is the biggest producing oil field in the lower 48 states, has produced just over 7 billion barrels of oil since the 1930s. In 1995, the world consumed 70.26 million barrels, the United States using 17.73% of that. Only 8% of the world’s oil was produced by the United States that year. In 2017, the world consumed 97.7 million barrels of oil. Of that, the United States consumed one third — almost 33% — while only producing 15.3% It's hard to know how much oil we have left, but this is our best guess. When will we run out? By Jennifer Lu.
